My Environment and the Future

All the beauties we see and admire on Earth were given to us free of charge. The Earth is the only planet that sustains life, and therefore it is all that people have. The future existence of human beings depends on the Earth's conservation and sustainable use. Our environment comprises all the living things and the surroundings. The environment is said to be healthy if it is viable for a long time. It detects and determines the life of everyone in terms of development and proper growth (Pimentel, Westra, & Noss, 2000). The quality of the natural environment determines the quality of life. This is because our need for water, food, shelter, and other basic needs depends on the environments surrounding us. I have a solid connection to the natural environment in several ways. Wilson (2014) shared his view of the environment and said, "If all humankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago." This shows a particular and balanced natural cycle that resides between the life of humankind, plants, animals, and the environment. I was born in a tiny local town, but it was abundant in environmental beauty. This was the core reason I am strongly connected to the environment. This made me love nature, and I enjoyed exploring it worldwide and experiencing its beauty. I am convinced that my ability to take good care of the environment will determine the future I will be having. Therefore, I always make sure I am part of those in the bottom line of conserving the environment, but first, let me share my experience with the natural environment.

Being born in a rural environment, I interacted with the natural environment my whole life. As you all know, the rural setting consists of a large part of nature compared to the urban environment. Since a young age, I have always desired to travel across the world and explore nature to the end. As a young child, we would go fishing with my father in the local stream near our home, and I used to enjoy observing both the sea and sky creatures. The most exciting part was when I would sit at the streamside and watch magnificent and different species of flying birds flying back and forth of the sky. Also, I enjoyed the cool breeze in the evenings while I was still sitting there.

Despite enjoying the natural environment in my hometown, our neighborhood faced natural disasters such as tornadoes and floods. The natural hazards would destroy the beautiful environment I used to enjoy. This caused some people to lose their lives, houses were being destroyed, destruction of plants and some were even uprooted, and soli diseases were being exposed, which killed both the land and sea creatures. Comparing the environment, I was in and the affected one, there was very much noticeable change between the two settings. Sometimes, the effect went beyond, and we were involved somehow. The beauty of the environment varnished, and the green climate turned different. Much of these natural hazards were caused by the people's actions on the environment who used to live there. Having lived a quarter-century, I have already testified the significant change in the natural environment.

One of the greatest lessons I have learned from my environmental training is that our action today on the environment reflects the future state of the same. I believe that the natural environment is living in has its way of recovering itself. I also believe whatever I am doing today will determine the future climate I will be living in. Let me give an example of the river I was fishing from childhood. Back then, our parents used to depend entirely on fishing, it was the main activity, and there was plenty of fish. As time goes by, due to overfishing, destructive fishing methods, degradation of the sea creatures, and ghost fishing affected the fishing. Today, very little fishing is taking place, and it cannot sustain people like it used to do back then. Using the currently available resources sustainably will satisfy the current generation's needs while also making the resources available for future generations. Therefore, in promoting the conservation of the environment, people should be educated and change their mindset.

  My professional goal is to start an environmental consulting firm and online campaign platform to enlighten the public and have an environmental-oriented mindset. To achieve this, I will create a website and social media pages to reach many people who will benefit from my website. Also, my experience and knowledge gained from attending the community college will help me achieve this goal of enlightening the public through online platforms and sharing more about it. Lastly, people should be keen on their present actions because they will be reflected in the future environment.

I like exploring the environment, enjoying the naturally occurring things, and experiencing what it offers. Conservation of the environment is a personal conviction that is built in me. Having developed mindset changes, I can sustainably use scarce environmental resources. Also, through my experience in the environment, I am optimistic for a future with a conducive environment where I can freely enjoy and experience what the natural environment offers. Lastly, now and in the future, I believe that my actions today will always determine the future environment I will be having, and I choose to do what is right and always conserve the environment.
