Force Field Analysis Template

In the table below, list your recommendation of a social communication strategy or technology strategy for implementing the “Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Framework for Improving Joy in Work” in the workplace. Then, list five facilitating forces and five restraining forces for and against implementing this recommendation.

Using the following scale, score each of your facilitating and restraining forces from 1 to 5 according to the degree of influence each force would have on your recommendation:

1 = very weak

2 = slightly weak

3 = neither weak nor strong

4 = slightly strong

5 = very strong

To calculate the “Facilitating Forces Total Score”,  add your five scores for the facilitating forces and enter this number in the last row of the chart.

To calculate the “Restraining Forces Total Score”, add your five scores for the restraining forces and enter this number in the last row of the chart.

To calculate the “Force Field Analysis Total Score”, substract the “Restraining Forces Total Score” from the “Facilitating Forces Total Score” and enter this number in the middle column of the last row of the chart. If the difference is positive, move forward with implementing the recommendation. If the difference is negative, reconsider implementing the recommendation.

The medical staff should be able to communicate with each other via some system.

Collaborative care is a term used to describe the cooperative efforts of healthcare providers in solving problems, making decisions, and implementing treatment plans for patients (Yamamoto, 2021). It also refers to collaborating with others in a group setting. Collaboration between healthcare professionals allows them to understand better each other's expertise, which helps them make more informed decisions for their patients' benefit.

The hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) should use interprofessional rounds to better coordinate patient care.

Interprofessional rounds in the hospital's intensive care unit will improve patient coordination. However, the integration of inpatient workflow has been limited in the past due to a lack of interprofessional collaboration.

Patient care time is not directly related to the patient.

Errors in nursing care are widespread and universal, and they are caused by systemic factors that harm both patients and nurses. Obligatory actions can be delayed, only partially completed, or not performed to commit an omission in the nursing field. Nursing care omissions can include not getting it when you need it (Wibonela et al., 2020).

Providing patients with a comprehensive treatment plan helps them better understand and appreciate their care.

When patients are given a detailed treatment plan, they can better understand and appreciate their care. To emphasize the importance of sensitive care, allowing patients to make decisions on their own can be beneficial when there are multiple medically justifiable treatments, such as cancer. Patients are more likely to participate in care activities if they can communicate with their care team. There are many benefits to involving patients in a process, such as giving them a sense of control over treatment.

Because of the rounding session, all interdisciplinary team members might fail to plan their tasks to coincide.

All interdisciplinary team members might not schedule their work around the rounding session. Patient care can be better coordinated between healthcare professionals when bedside rounds are used in the hospital. This understanding must be conveyed to patients clearly and understandably to effectively coordinate patient care.

Facilitate team discussions and develop a comprehensive care plan while reducing misunderstandings.

When working in an extensive healthcare system, it is essential to have a cohesive team to prevent adverse events from occurring due to misunderstandings and miscommunications about roles and responsibilities. That way, misunderstandings can be avoided, and the entire unit can develop a comprehensive care plan. Patient involvement in the communication process has been shown to reduce potential errors and adverse events while increasing patient outcomes.

If the intensive care physician is not present at the facility, the rest of the staff may not be able to engage in interprofessional rounding.

Clinical data and treatment plans are reviewed and discussed by various healthcare professionals in the intensive care unit (ICU) as part of regularly scheduled meetings. Their insight into the day-to-day operations of a facility is invaluable. If the healthcare team works together, they will be able to address better each member's needs, concerns, and goals (Russo et al., 2019).

All employees are encouraged to work together across departments, communicate openly, and form strong bonds of friendship and cooperation.

By making collaboration one of the core values, executives can expect their employees to perform at their best. For a company to succeed, its employees must be able to see how the company's top executives work together as a unit. In addition, top executives should publicly recognize and reward successful teams.

Healthcare professionals may be less cost-effective in the future than they are today.

Faulty costing systems can have disastrous results. Nothing can be managed or improved if it cannot be measured. As a result of the inability to link costs to process or outcome improvements or outcomes, providers cannot achieve systemic and long-term cost reductions.

Employee satisfaction can be increased by giving them more influence over their work.

Giving workers a more significant say in their work can boost their overall well-being and efficiency. To maintain a healthy work environment, employees must have more freedom, authority, and responsibility over their own time.

Conflict can arise when competing views on how to best care for a patient.

While conflict-based approaches to conflict demonstrate high commitment to goals but a low level of commitment to the people in their immediate environment, disagreements can arise when two doctors have opposing views on how best to treat an individual patient. Depending on the circumstances, competition may or may not be an effective strategy. The competing approach is used by those who want to achieve their own goals at the other party's expense. As a result, it may appear as if one is defending an opinion, a cause, or a fundamental principle of morality. A variety of institutional mechanisms, such as courts, legislative bodies, and sales quotas, can be used to promote opposing viewpoints.
