Health-Related Proposed Bill
Question
Using the 'Resources to explore bills and legislative process related to specific bills' (see attached reading), please choose a health-related bill, give the full name and HR or S number, aim of the bill, and state whether, as a nurse, you support or oppose this bill (you do not need to give a rationale for this choice in this forum). You may choose one of the bills listed or you may use the given search engine to find another bill. You may choose a bill that has already become law, failed to become law, or a bill in the legislature currently (please make the current status of the bill clear in your writing) (one sentence).
Then discuss one point in the legislative process where you feel that political action could be focused to either support or defeat this bill. Please be specific to the bill, the process for this bill, and the legislators and committees most relevant to the bill. What action would you recommend nurses take relevant to the legislative process for this bill? You may choose a point of action that has already passed or that you anticipate will occur (but should make clear this stands in time). (One paragraph).
Who are your representatives in the House of Representatives and Senate? Describe any involvement or potential involvement in this bill (for example: are they a sponsor, do they sit on any relevant committees?). (One paragraph).
Please discuss the actual or potential involvement of the executive branch (including regulatory) or judicial branch with this bill. What challenges may confront this bill, if passed, as it moves into implementation and is translated into regulation? Could you imagine that there would be any judicial challenges to this bill, if passes - please discuss? (One paragraph).

Solution
Health-Related Proposed Bill
The bill I chose to discuss is HR 1093, the "Stop Price Gouging Act". As a nurse, I oppose this proposed act that has failed law enaction in the recent congress session. The proposed law could have mandated pharmaceutical companies selling prescribed drugs subject to price spikes exceeding the yearly percentage increment recommended by the consumer price index to gather for the proposed exercise tax. The tax rate ranges from 50 percent to 100 percent of the revenue earned by the pharmaceutical company for selling drugs. The I.G has to submit the assessment made from the data to the Internal Revenue Services ("HR 1093—116th Congress", 2021).
This bill was sponsored by the democratic representative of Wisconsin, Mark Pocan, and this bill will be implemented by the federal government of the United States of America. The legislative intent of this bill is to protect the citizens of America from the effect of the increase in the cost of medicines by the pharmaceutical companies that are aimed at earning high revenues by providing healthcare services. As argued by mason et al. (2020), nurses need to be sensitive to patients' economic status through opposing pharmaceutical pricing policies that aim to exploit these individuals.
As a result, the opponents of the "Stop Price Gouging Act" are the pharmaceutical companies as with the implementation of this bill, the companies will not be able to earn revenue from the citizens, and if they do so, then they will have to pay high excise taxes for the medicines that violated the recommendations as per the Chained Consumer Price Index. The target population of this act is the population of the United States of America as this bill will save the money of the public that would otherwise go into the pocket of drug market leaders, and this bill is currently under the subcommittee on health after which the house will pass it to the Senate.
