 Remote Working

Introduction

Remote Working has been a matter of discussion since there was a break out of Covid 19. It has changed the way of life and affected the culture of various people and businesses in the World. Workers no longer work the way they used to work back in the past. During this period of the pandemic, there have been a lot of changes happening in the World. Businesses have closed down, and curfews have been placed almost everywhere. Other countries have urged their citizens to try and work at home, encouraging Remote Working. Companies have laid off employees while others changed the criteria of working from home to reduce the rate at which Covid 19 was spreading (Jacks 94). Strategies were introduced to reduce the spread of the deadly disease, which was succumbing to the whole World. Schools were not left out. Online teaching and schooling from home via the internet were introduced in most schools in the World. Application Software such as Zoom has been very productive in achieving and assisting in remote Working.

Such strategies have been effective, but they have posed a significant challenge in other cases. This shift from working in the old ways to working online has various advantages and disadvantages (Anand and Acharya 119). It has impacted the World in different ways, which may be productive, but it may also have slugged some world factors compared to the usual past working practice. For example, there are various business people, students in the World who prefer remote Working while others prefer the old way of working. Still, the question remains, How has the Switch from an in-person environment to an online climate impacted the way people work?

The Positive Impacts of the Switch from in- person environment to online environment about their working criteria.

Changing of environment usually affects different people in different ways. This concept applies to the issue of shifting from an in-person environment to working from an online environment. Some workers love working from an online environment and prefer that, while others feel that working from the physical environment is much more accommodative ((Vyas and Butakhieo 14). Remote Working carries several challenges that would affect the progress of the company and the progress of the individual workers in the specific organization.

There are many strategies which the workers employed as a switch from the former strategy in the In- personal environment to the Online environment. Some workers had to change their working criteria in a digitalized and modern way, while others had to undergo training on how to work with the new devices (Vyas and Butakhieo 16). In an adaptation to the online environment during the start of the Covid 19, Schools shifted to online lessons to cover the syllabus remaining to the end of the year. This pushed teachers to train on how to offer online lessons. Some tutors found it to be fun as they could save themselves from the burden of commuting to and from work. Others felt discouraged as they were used to the past way of working, and it saved them a lot, especially in cases of consulting with their colleagues (Jacks 94). On the other hand, the online climate can be tough sometimes to bear since it will push some workers to include drafting reports to their managers at the end of the day, informing them on milestones covered after every working day. Since the shift, we have witnessed both positive and negative impacts.

First and foremost, the online working environment benefits the employees. It is considered to offer agility and flexibility to some degree in working arrangements. It assists employees to get away from the stuffed environment and challenges of being tied in an Office (Andriyanty et al 522). The online environment has accommodated them the opportunity of choosing to decide when to work, whether morning or afternoon. From a different point of view, the online environment offers a lot of freedom to the workers than the in-person environment (Prasetyaningtyas et al 139). Aside from that, it has assisted the workers also to meet various business needs, for example, if they are making trade between the customers who reside from a different time zone.

The online environment has been advantageous and beneficial to those workers who are babysitting or are mothers. The in-person environment posed several challenges to such workers commuting daily to their respective offices and back. They would struggle a lot to ensure that they don’t go contrary to the doctrines set in the workplace. Others would endure harassment from their strict supervisors. Such challenges would not give such kinds of workers peace of mind, but after introducing online and remote Working, they get to have peace of mind. It has improved the retention of the employees as the flexibility would assist in enabling them to fit their work around their personal life properly (.(Anand and Acharya 119) The advantage of online Working is that the workers can feel the levels of trust among the employer, which is a factor that can significantly improve the loyalty of the workers. This strategy has improved my commitment to working.

The Switch from the in-person environment to the online environment has increased the workers’ productivity (Vyas and Butakhieo 16). Online Working has reduced unnecessary interruptions witnessed from the Office place. It has eradicated the time spent commuting from home to work and back. In contrast, the online environment allows a peaceful environment that can facilitate focused work. It has also enabled other workers to wish to increase their paid contract hours as they save on time that was in the previous days spent commuting to and from the working places.

The Online environment and online Working boost the motivation of the staff, meaning that it will make them have a positive attitude towards working. The workers who work from home will feel very much trusted by their bosses and their employers, which will boost the Employer- Worker relationship, increasing the quality of the output from the workers (Wang et al, 25). The online environment reduces being monitored, and the employees are given autonomy in their work. It provides the workers enough space to develop their routine of working, which they are very comfortable with, making them more productive compared to the previous times when they all were forced to abide by a specific routine.

Creativity in working and various workers have been improved due to working from home. Online Working requires the workers to access the internet and use digital devices such as smart phones and Computers (Wang et al 23). The workers in the past who were not skilled in Computer have improved very much on their skills, therefore, improving their operational competence and increasing the competition in various markets. In the past, in case of failure on the technical side, there was always a set of digital operators and wizards who were well advanced that the companies paid to resolve the specialized niches. In the online environment, it’s upon the workers to seek a solution in case of a breakdown occurs when they are working. This pretty much boosts the working creativity of the worker as it gives the worker the chance to apply new unique techniques.

Improving technological systems improves the factor of innovation. This can be significantly witnessed in the analog to the digital environment shift. The digital climate accords workers many opportunities to be creative and innovative with their working space and working criteria (Anand and Acharya 119). The workers are allowed to employ new techniques and strategies of working. Since the start of online Working and remote Working, many companies have agreed that they have witnessed immense production and a higher production rate.

Many workers have confessed to being able to multi-task while working compared to the past when they felt it was difficult. Continued progress has been witnessed in several business sectors and the E-Commerce market. This is because Online Working, which is considerably associated with technology, has assisted in widening the scope and has exposed workers to new strategies employed by different working Organizations in the World(Yang et al 35). This step revealed workers of different businesses and companies to further interactions with other workers, and as a result, they were greatly challenged, subsequently improving their way of working due to new knowledge being employed,

Apart from workers, learners in School have majorly improved in their studies as the online environment accommodates them with the peace they require. Online learning keeps them away from other students who are bullies and gives them room to further their knowledge on some of the topics studied in School (Andriyanty et al 522). Moreover, the online environment has great software applications like YouTube. Therefore, students can extend their knowledge and research on several issues like The Space, The Earth, and other topics related to Science and Business.

The Negative Impacts of the Switch from in- person environment to online environment about their working criteria.

The Switch has various positive impacts, from the in-person environment to the online environment. Still, besides this, it also has several adverse effects that might ultimately destroy and alter the standard way of working (Yang et al 35.). The Online environment automatically does not suit every worker precisely. Some workers will prefer working under the conditions and structures in the in-person climate rather than the online environment. Some workers find the face-to-face guidance with their supervisors and their managers to be highly beneficial in majorly assisting them in completing various tasks to make several achievements (Cramer and Zaveri n p). The online environment does not sound conducive to those employees and students who have a certain kind of disability. Working online might also mess with the production and output of the work as the worker might employ the wrong criteria for working and performing tasks if they misunderstand the matter.

The online environment is isolated compared to the in-person environment. In-person-environment offers interactions between the employees in the workplace and students in schools, which significantly assists them both in their Working and addressing issues and concerns about their work (Yang et al 35). To address the issues regarding their work, the workers need to have regular communication, which is very much denied by the online environment. On matters of the School, the online environment will fail to accommodate the different thinking capabilities of the students. They are some slow learners who will prefer to learn and study closer to their tutors in case of assistance, which will be provided.

The Online environment gives room for workers and students to have a lot of freedom. Freedom is advantageous, but on the other side, it is considered a significant disadvantage. For Instance, the in-person environment will limit freedom to a specific measure and give room for monitoring the workers and the students (Anand and Acharya 119). Such a strategy assists a lot in correcting the wrong procedure and criteria of working. However, monitoring would be complex, and managing the home workers in the online environment. It will also be challenging to access them if a problem needs to be addressed (Vyas and Butakhieo 18). The in-person environment will assist the managers with the chance to set targets with various workers, which are measurable so that in a situation where the targets aren’t met, the problem can be spotted. Solutions are proposed at an early age before it is considered late.

Distractions are no exception in the online environment. Working from home can assist workers in escaping the interruptions and distractions in the office. Still, they cannot escape the distraction in various dwellings from children and noises from the neighborhood. Working from home will demand the workers to have a dedicated working space, or else they will be disrupted and interrupted by the family members (Andriyanty et al 522). The online environment is not very much secure in recent times. It is very much flooded with people from all walks of life who have different intentions. The problems dealing with information security could occur when people work from home. This will heavily affect their working criteria as they will be forced to install several programs to monitor the risk of information being transferred to the wrong sources. Some big companies have faced many challenges after the announcement was leaked and their bank accounts were accessed.

Conclusions

In discussing and comparing the online and in-person environments, various points and factors will guide you as a business or an individual worker to decide where it suits you the best. Some workers will feel the online environment is adequate, while others will think that the in-person environment is also accommodative (Jack 93). The Switch from the in person-environment to the online environment significantly affected the working criteria of workers and schools. The Corona Virus has dramatically pushed some employees to the wall; it has impacted employees’ health who cannot set the correct routine of working online (Niebuhr et al 1122). It has to some extent, put into practice the two concepts in the discussion, and it gives us an insight into the way workers and students will be working if, in any case, we were to stick to the environment Online (Anand and Acharya 119). For the online environment to be considered a success, it will take the workers’ efforts to be organized and well prepared mentally to tackle whichever challenges that may arise in their working criteria. It will force the managers to be ready to trust their employees that under whichever circumstances, the workers will deliver productive work in the end.
