Social Media Campaign
B: Diagnosis Statement
The outbreak of Covid-19 led to an increased rate of hospitalization, death, and infection among Black and Hispanic groups in my community which was related to low compliance to preventive measures, as evidenced by low vaccination rates.
B1. Health Disparity or inequity
The outbreak of Covid-19 affected the whole world, but each country had its way of mitigating the spread of the virus. But even though the pandemic affected people regardless of religion, gender, power, and race, there is a high rate of disparity and inequality in healthcare that affects Blacks and Hispanic persons. In America, Blacks and Hispanic people are most of the time discriminated against when it comes to the healthcare system. For instance, when the U.S started vaccinating for Covid-19, the vaccines were scarce, thus leading the country to prioritize vaccination of healthcare workers, which exposed Black and Hispanic people to the significant impact of the virus. The country's shortage of vaccines and health inequality contributed to increased deaths, hospitalization, and infection in the group.
B1a. Primary community resources and prevention resources
The primary resources that helped address the pandemic issue included community healthcare facilities such as clinics and nursing homes. Given their importance to the community, there were equipped with healthcare providers such as nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The mandate of healthcare providers was to treat and educate the community on the impact of Covid-19 on their lives.
B1b. Underlying Causes
From the analysis of the targeted population, it has been indicated that the underlying cause of the high rate of hospitalization, death, and infection due to the Covid pandemic was a racial disparity in fighting the disease (Zerefsky, 2020). Blacks and Hispanics people have higher rates of preexisting conditions such as diabetes and obesity, which exposes them to the Covid pandemic and can lead to more negative effects (Xu et al., 2020). Also, most Blacks and Hispanic people in my community were doing casual jobs such as bus drivers and custodians, which made it easier to expose them to the pandemic.
B2. Evidence-Based Practice
It is clear that Covid-19 was a new pandemic that originated in China; thus, evidence-based practices needed to be formulated. But according to different scholars, it has been indicated that social distance and isolation were vital measures that were used to reduce the spread of the pandemic (Nicola et al., 2020). Another way to reduce the spread of Covid-19 is hand washing and quarantine.
B2a. Identification of Data
From the data I have analyzed, it is clear that data at the state level that one out of 1,000 black people in the United States died from the Covid pandemic. Also, data from amfAR shows that 22 percent of states in America are disproportionately black (Rose, 2020). From this view, at least 50 percent of Covid-19 cases that were recorded in the country were a black whole 55 percent of death were black people.
C1. Social Media Campaign Objective
It is fundamental that the main objective of establishing this campaign is to make Blacks and Hispanics embrace prevention measures that aim to prevent the increased spread of the Covid pandemic. More importantly, the campaign's objective will take the initiative of comparing the impacts of the pandemic before and after the campaign. In general, it aims to ensure that it reduces deaths, hospitalization, and infection of the targeted population from Covid-19.
C2. Population-Focused Social Marketing Interventions
Given the importance of this social media campaign to my community, I will collaborate with community resources outreach interventions as population-focused social marketing interventions. For instance, collaboration with community resources is vital because it will educate Blacks and Hispanic people about how Covid-19 spreads and the measures they need to take to mitigate its spread. This means that collaboration with community resources is an essential way of improving the health and well-being of the population. Also, community outreach intervention collaboration will help the targeted population to understand the benefits of masks and isolation in reducing the transmission of the pandemic.
C3. Social media platform
Looking at the aim of my campaign to the community, the most suitable social media to use is Facebook. This is because using the platform makes it will easier to share campaign information with targeted populations in America and across the globe because it is cost-effective.
C3a. Benefits of social media platforms
The social media platform I will use in this campaign is Facebook, which will help create a public group that will be mandated to disperse information on how the targeted population can contain the spread of the pandemic. The idea of coming up with public groups on Facebook is to allow for sharing of resources and knowledge links among the targeted group in my community. Also, apart from helping to promote awareness of the importance of prevention, it can help fight discrimination and racism to ensure Blacks and Hispanic people are supported through prevention and community resources to mitigate Covid-19.
C4. Target Population
This social media campaign is essential to the targeted population in numerous ways. For instance, it will inform the targeted population about preventing the Covid pandemic, thus reducing deaths and hospitalization infection. Another significant aspect of this campaign to the targeted population is that it will dispense information to them on the need to improve lifestyle changes to reduce preexisting conditions that can lead to the risk of Covid-19. Therefore, the main message of my social media campaign will be to be sensitive to the targeted population on the importance of prevention to reduce severe damage caused by Covid-19 in the community.
D. Practices for implementing social media tools for health marketing
Given the importance of this campaign to the community, it is essential to ensure that fundamental rules are followed to allow people access accurate, credible, and current information about the impact of the Covid pandemic. For instance, the first thing I would do is to ensure that information that will be presented on social media is not viewed as the sole unobstructed truth. This means that it is essential to investigate the credibility of information so that to ensure it is trustworthy. For this reason, my social media campaign will be science-based in order to make sure the information it represents is reliable and credible.
E1. Stakeholder Roles and Responsibilities
It is fundamental that my social media campaign is meant to ensure that the effect of Covid-19 on Blacks and Hispanic people is prevented; thus, stakeholders that will be included in the campaign are the community health department, local hospitals, government officials, and community nurses. Although apart from the mentioned stakeholder, I will be the main stakeholder in the campaign. As the main stakeholder, my role will ensure the campaign is credible, accurate, and reliable. Furthermore, community nurses will be in charge of ensuring that individuals are informed on prevention techniques such as wearing face masks, isolating themselves, and washing their hands. The local hospitals will help in providing treatment plans to the affected people in the community and prevention measures to the uninfected.
E2. Potential public and private partnerships
Given that this campaign is mainly meant to help the public, both private and public partners sector will help to implement it. For example, public partners like the government will be critical in ensuring that targeted people have masks and other personal protective equipment to limit transmission. Also, government agencies will help in reducing the cost of healthcare, thus minimizing discrimination against Blacks and Hispanic persons when accessing health. On the other hand, the private partnership will include nurse doctors, community health nurses, and infectious disease doctors who will help ensure that the targeted population is educated on essential methods of reducing transmission. To make their education effective, they can use videos to popularize my campaign.
E3. Timeline for implementing campaign
My campaign aims to ensure that there is increased compliance to the Covid-19 prevention measures to reduce the risk of hospitalization, death, and infection among Blacks and Hispanic persons within three months. In the first month, my mandate will be to evaluate the impact of using social media campaigns in preventing Covid-19 by benchmarking previous similar projects that have succeeded. After evaluation in the second month, I will develop a public Facebook group where I will present my campaign. Creating a public Facebook group is to help collect information and relevant data from health experts. In the same month, I will launch a social media campaign to educate the targeted population in my community regarding the importance of Covid-19 prevention and safety protocols. In the last month of the campaign, I will be able to analyze the feedback from the Facebook users, thus allowing partners and shareholders in the campaign to give their views. Also, after I have analyzed the data, I will take time to determine if I met the objective of my social media campaign to reduce the risk of covid-19.
E4. Evaluation
In order to know the success of my social media campaign, it is fundamental to evaluate it through assessment and data evaluation. For this case, I will evaluate the campaign through Facebook feedback from the participants or users. Through the participants' comments, likes, and shares, I will know that the campaign is effective and many people are satisfied with it. Furthermore, given that I need to know the campaign's effectiveness, I will use web analytics such as Google Analytics to gather Facebook users' feedback on the campaign's benefit in preventing the Covid pandemic.
E5. Cost of Implementing Campaign
My campaign is focused on ensuring that Covid-19 does not impact my community, it will be cost-effective so that to ensure available resources are adequate. For instance, Facebook is one essential platform because it is free. Despite this, I will have to allocate $700 to the campaign so that it can help to cater to different things. For instance, I need to gather resources from the donors to facilitate advertising and also compensate experts who will be consulted. In the implementation of this campaign, I also need to meet the costs of internet connection and maintenance. With my available budget at least, I will use $250 for advertising and $350 for consultation. The remaining $100will be used to pay the Media Manager running the Facebook platform.
F. Reflection on social media campaign
In my view, my social media marketing will be essential to the public because it can help in the prevention of Covid-19 and promote healthier populations. Although indeed the pandemic affected my community, the use of social media marketing is vital because it can help people overcome its impacts. This means the use of free platforms such as Facebook can enable to reach more people so that to make them know how risks related to Covid-19 can be reduced. More importantly, social media marketing will help inform many people in remote areas about the effect of the pandemic without interacting physically.
F1. Reflection on future nursing practices
In conclusion, my social media campaign can be used in the future nursing practice in several ways. For instance, it can help the nurses simulate health care issues in the future. With the current advancement of technology, it is clear that nursing practice is changing; thus, technology is taking over some healthcare objectives, including informing the public about essential healthcare measures. For this reason, the campaign will play a significant role in ensuring that it informs the public to curb healthcare challenges. Together with healthcare technologies such as telemedicine, nurses will help my community fight effective diseases like Covid-19.
