Blood Alcohol Level (BAC)

The blood alcohol concentration in humans depends on various factors, including body weight and stature, hydration levels, age, gender, and the amount and duration of the alcohol ingestion. The client in question, Miguel, is a young man with a weighted average of 165 pounds. Miguel is susceptible to alcohol effects, having tested .12 and unable to perceive her surroundings.

BAC also depends on the type of alcoholic beverage used. BAC is calculated in concentration in the bloodstream, with 0.01 being one part of alcohol present in 1000 parts of blood. According to the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University (n.d.). one drink is equivalent to 1.25 oz. of liquor, 12 oz. of beer, 1 oz. of shot, or five oz. of wine. one drink is equal to .02. Therefore, for Adriana to accumulate .206, she must consume .206 divided by .02, which equals 10 drinks. Such a level for her would be lethal and death-invoking. To have a BAC of .08, she must consume .08 divided by .02, equal to 4 drinks. Adriana's BAC rate means that she had ingested .12 divided by .02 equaling 6 drinks.

Alcohol surge in the body is devastating. Binge and excess drinking increase the dangers one exposes themselves to. Bac rates below .08 relax the muscles, loosen caution, and blur judgment.  Rates going to .13 impair motor actions, impairing emotions, at .19 injects distress immobilizing the victim while at .20 the brain work is completely impaired. More ingestion would lead to stupors and coma to death (Ahmed & Greenberg, 2019).

Similarly, the elimination of alcohol in the bloodstream depends on time and amount of ingestion (Yadav & Velaga, 2019). The half-live of alcohol is about five hours. Therefore, one needs five half-lives to eliminate alcohol from the body.

Although Miguel is safe now, his drinking is a risk to himself and the people around him. He is especially vulnerable to accidents relatable to driving and mobility. In addition, it is possible for such levels of alcohol consumption to lead one into behaviors they would regret later.
