Global Perspective on Education
School operations differ depending on the management and the location of the school. The education system is also influenced by how much the government invests in the education system. For example, Singapore's government considers education as the second most crucial sector. Being a small nation with no agriculture or natural resources, the country invests in the brain (SBS Dateline). Often, many parents are working and are faced with the challenge of balancing between ensuring that their kids attend school and their work. Some schools have daycare facilities (Life in Canada) that take care of the kids as they wait for their parents to pick them up. Additionally, kids who live far from school apply for transportation through the school bus for a small affordable fee.
Different schools have different approaches to how they teach their children. For example, in French education (FRANCE 24 English), kids are taught how to perform complex tasks at a young age. This approach ensures that pupils have mastered a lot of fundamental skills. In addition, schools have adopted Singapore's teaching methods, where teachers use natural objects in teaching. Although most teachers disapprove of this method, it has worked in Singapore's education system, and students can relate what they are taught in school with real-world examples.
Every child has a right to education. However, some schools discriminate against kids with disabilities. For instance, (Human Rights Watch), a kid states that schools could not admit him because of his disability. To rectify this challenge, special schools have been established. However, most parents cannot afford the school fees and the extra expenses required to ensure their kids are well catered for.
Singapore's education system is developed and has better teaching approaches. Moreover, Singapore's government is keen on ensuring an efficient education system that makes Singapore a better learning option. An interviewee (SBS Dateline) says that their focus is not on teaching students about the present but on teaching them about the future economy. Schools in Singapore have better approaches to teaching where kids can learn using real-world examples, enhancing their skills. Additionally, they have tuition sessions where teachers can focus on the students individually and help them improve their weak areas. Singapore focuses on preparing its students for the job market.
