Solution
Discussion Board 6: Classroom Activities
1. How many different class activities do students need to do or be exposed to to acquire "learn" new concepts and Vocabulary?
For students to effectively learn new concepts and Vocabulary, they should engage in a variety of activities in the class that stimulate their thinking, allowing them to possess the acquired information actively. Despite the different number of class activities required to acquire Vocabulary and new concepts, the activities may vary depending on the content and context. Students need class activities like; guided practice and application, anticipatory set, assessments from the teacher, direct instructions, and independent learning practice (Gonzalez, 2022). This classic lesson plan format activity needs to be exposed to students by teachers to enable them to acquire new concepts and Vocabulary.
2. Is it important for teachers to include activities like these when introducing new materials such as science, Vocabulary, math, and reading, among other subject areas?
Yes, it is of great essence for teachers to engage students in those activities above while introducing new concepts. This is important across all the subject areas. Despite the mentioned activities above, the students should also be engaged in active learning activities like; discussions, role-playing, and even debates which will increase students' connections between their prior knowledge and new information. These activities offer students opportunities to practice using new concepts and Vocabulary in a meaningful context which can assist in deepening their understanding.
3. How do these help students learn and understand new materials?
These active learning activities help students better understand and retain the new concepts they acquire in class. This is because when the students engage in activities like; visual and auditory, they are more likely to remember these activities. Furthermore, activities that make students apply their knowledge and skills, like through independent learning, guided practice, and application in a wide range, enable them to retain the learned information better (Gonzalez, 2022). This will significantly assist students in learning and understanding new materials.
