An immediate recovery plan |
Seek assistance from experts in the healthcare sector, particularly the pre-identified individuals and organizations. Sources of experts include the Department of Health and Human Sciences (HHS), Pan American Health Organizations (PAHO), International Recovery Platform (IRP), and World Bank (Buchbinder et al., 2012). The assistance sought revolves around improving communication effectiveness and information technology reliability within an acute care setting. |
The immediate threat |
There are glaring gaps in baseline information and damages, losses, and problems relating to the dissemination and use of information to ensure timely and quality healthcare to patients in acute care settings. |
Outline steps to mitigate the immediate risk/threat |
The first step is to re-examine the healthcare system and determine where problems occur within its information technology system. Common problems include outdated processes, compliance issues, and data-entry errors. Once one has identified the problematic issue within the healthcare organization, the next step is assessing the institution’s needs and conducting a risk evaluation to generate vital insights and inputs for change (Singh, 2016). The third step is conducting process improvements based on the identified issues and the needs of the healthcare institution. Lastly, the institution will implement a continuous improvement approach to ensure the company performs effectively at all times. Continuous improvements will catch errors if they occur within the acute care environment. |
Who needs to be notified, including what needs to be shared and when |
The administration and members of staff must be notified of the changes. The information technology will spearhead the gradual transition to a new and reliable system. It will offer all the needed support to all the staff members to ensure a smooth transition. The information that needs to be shared touches on the nature and need for the new changes and why the institution is implementing them. Authorities and all concerned practitioners must share the information immediately to ensure all stakeholders are on board during the development and transition phases. |
Root cause methodology |
The root-cause analysis will provide a more reliable approach to identifying and preventing problems from occurring (Singh, 2016). It is more effective and desirable to prevent problems and solve them systematically than putting out fires or treating ad hoc symptoms (Buchbinder et al., 2012). The information technology department will conduct a root cause analysis to determine the causes of the communication breakdown and related problems to increase effectiveness and success. |
Ethical implications |
The institution is committed to providing the highest quality care to patients within the acute care setting. All the healthcare providers in this department have sworn to adhere to the highest standards of care. Therefore, it is the ethical responsibility of the institution to ensure that it provides all the resources required to offer high-quality care and prevent potential adverse effects to clients (Buchbinder et al., 2012). |
Financial implications |
The improvement of the system has some financial burdens associated with it. The first concerns the amounts paid to identify and rectify problems. This amount will vary depending on the size and complexity of the problem (Singh, 2016). The next payment is about the development of a continuous improvement system. Although amounts paid to maintain this issue are likely to remain unchanged, they will be high in the long run. Therefore, there is a need for effective and comprehensible financial planning. Luckily, improving the system and reducing or preventing the likelihood of adverse effects can result in bigger financial gains in the future. |
