I feel like I learned more about myself through hearing other people’s stories. I realized that not everyone thinks about their workstation when they work; some do it automatically while others need to be reminded. It also made me aware that some people need constant reinforcement on certain tasks.
I gained the ability to communicate effectively with others by using simple, straightforward language without rambling or “straight talk”. I realized that not everyone likes to dance around words. This also made me more aware of my surroundings, and what you say can affect the feelings of others.

I knew that narcissism is an issue if people are not aware of how they impact others, but I didn’t know that one’s willingness to listen can impact their ability to be empathetic towards others.
Learned: If someone is willing to listen and show that they are listening, the other person feels like you understand and can create trust.

I will not forget how much “straight talk” can affect the feelings of others and realize that empathy is a two-way street where both sides need to be willing to listen and show that they are.
