The Israeli Palestinian conflict

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains one of the major international wars in history. The war traces its origin back to May 948, leading to massive loss of lives and state conflicts. The start of the conflict was the termination of the British mandate over Palestine and the declaration of Israeli Independence. One issue created within the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians is the significance of protecting borders from invasion (Britannica, 2019). The Israeli-Palestinian war saw its end in 1949. The end, however, saw more than 750000 Palestinians displaced from their residential places, with the states divided into three; the Gaza strip, the west bank and the State of Israel.

Israel decided to invade the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt and Syria. The invasion saw Israel gain complete control of the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza strip and the West Bank, the eastern part of Jerusalem and Syria (Council on Foreign Relations, 2021). The question of the Palestinian's pursuit of self-governance was not resolved even though the improved relations seemed to merge between Israeli and her neighbors. The "first intifada" saw many Palestinians residing within the Gaza Strip and West and rising against the Israeli government. The Oslo I Accords signed in 1993 reduced the prevailing conflict between Palestine and Israeli as it allowed room for self-governance among the Palestinians. The Accord also ensured a mutual co-existence between Israel and Palestine, and Israel had to remove its army from the cities and the 450 towns it had taken control over.

The second Intifada was launched in 2000 by the Israeli prime minister, and the Israeli authorities approved the construction of a barrier around the west bank as an affirmation of presented self-rule. The 2014 clashes on the Palestinian territory confronted the Israelis and Hamas. The clashes saw more than 2251 and 73 Palestinians and Israelis killed, respectively (Michael, 2021). In 2015 the Palestinian president declared that Palestine could no longer be bound to territorial divisions included in the Oslo Accords, and as a result, war broke out to enable Palestine to effectively protect its borders from the Israeli invasion.

In 2018, the Palestinians residing between Israel and Gaza conducted a demonstration between the western part of Gaza and Israel. Although the demonstrations were peaceful, some of the protesters broke the perimeter fences of the borders while throwing rocks in the Israeli area, and the aftermath saw the death of 183 demonstrators and more than 6000 demonstrators were injured through live ammunition (Office of the Historian, 2019). The effects were massive.

The creation of the Palestinian State can effectively address Israeli security issues. It is evident that one of the reasons for the emergence of the Israeli-Palestinian war was the conflict was the termination of the British mandate over Palestine and the declaration of Israelis as a state (Treander, 2021). Israeli declaration as a state insinuated more power that effectively enabled it to conquer its neighbors through military conquests. The creation of a Palestinian State can therefore accord more power to Palestine and reduce the "harassment" received from neighboring Israel and, as a result, reduce the border conflicts that are mainly intended to establish Israeli control in Palestine.

Secondly, creating a Palestinian state will lead to self-governance and ruling. It has to be noted that Palestine longed for self-governance and the Oslo II accords saw a declaration made by the Palestinian prime minister that Palestine could no longer be guided by territorial divisions rather than themselves (Treander, 2021). The self-governance will make it easier for Palestine to make its laws and regulations without the influence of the outer party as it all appeared from the beginning. Additionally, self-government can reduce regional and global threats from extremists, state-sponsored proxies, and non-state terrorist groups.
